Project Description

Dubuque Community School District
Irving Middle School

Project Cost: $3.5 mil

Date Completed: 2009

Location: Dubuque, IA

Renovations at Dubuque’s largest K-5 school included two additions and areas of major renovation within the existing facility. The North Classroom Addition provided four general classrooms, two smaller special needs classrooms, and two conference rooms. The addition provided more classroom space and allowed for the removal of three portable classrooms, which were considered a security concern and disruptive to the students’ day. During the renovation, an existing stairs was removed to make the corridor connection, and a new stairway was installed in an alternate location. The renovation also included a new enlarged media center, an updated art classroom, additional learning environments and loading dock for daily deliveries. The new space operates under a new closed-loop geothermal mechanical system designed to save the school in annual energy costs.
