Dubuque Community School District
Hempstead High School – DCSD Aquatics Center
Project Cost: $8.5 mil
Date Completed: 2020
Location: Dubuque, IA
The new DCSD Aquatic Center now serves as the main competition pool for the district’s two Class 4A High Schools. The complex features a new training and competition 25-meter stretch swimming pool with springboard diving that replaced the existing, outdated pool.
Off the pool deck, a wet classroom was created to allow for instruction while auxiliary locker rooms and storage were added for after-hours use of the facility. Balcony seating provides excellent sight lines for a capacity crowd of 330 spectators.

With tight budgets, aggressive timelines and high expectations, schools are one of the most difficult construction types to build. Frk knows this, since 90% of our design work is in the K-12 sector. When we are fortunate enough to have an exceptional contractor on a project, we know the process will go smoothly and the client will be pleased with the outcome. This has been our experience with Tricon on all the projects we have worked with them on. From value engineering and project schedules, to punch list and close out, we have appreciated Tricon’s proactive approach, strong jobsite leadership, and quality craftsmanship.
