Project Description
Dubuque Community School District
Senior High School
Project Cost: $27 mil
Date Completed: In Progress – 2024 completion
Location: Dubuque, IA
Dubuque Senior High School is a historic building from 1890 that endures as a beloved architectural treasure to the community.
The new improvements include the renovation of classroom, practice and storage space in the visual arts, music and theater departments; creation of new special education and physical education learning spaces; installation of air conditioning throughout the entire building; revamping the school auditorium; the addition of a new staircase and elevator; and construction of two major additions. The proposed three-year project would conclude in July 2024.
The planned auditorium work includes a new event entrance and a theater support addition, as well as new seating, catwalks and sound and video capability.
Much of the heaviest work will be completed over summers to minimize the impact of the construction project on students. The project is being completed such that 10 classrooms or fewer are offline at a time during the school year. Students will continue to be in the building during the renovation process and no plans are being made to relocate classes to other areas.
Site safety is and will remain the main focus on this project as we are working around the students and staff for 3 years.
